It converts the rotational movement from the steering to side movements then your wheels turn directs like left and right. A steering rack will be located at the center of the front two wheels to control them.

What is the difference between a Hydraulic Power Steering System and an Electric Power System?
A Hydraulic Power Steering System is a traditional power steering pumping system. To help rotate the steering, a fluid called hydraulic fluid is used in this process. It passes the compressed and compacted pressurized fluid to the steering and many other parts of the steering system. It is mostly under high pressure. Gears also get fluid for functioning, which is low-pressured. So this system is available on most vehicles. But an Electric Power System is not a traditional power steering system but a modern one, and it helps us protect natural resources, like all oils & fluids.
Electric Pumping System runs through an electric motor connected to the steering system. It is beneficial in modern cars and electric vehicles. It is similar to the traditional hydraulic power steering system and does all its functions without using any fluid but an electric motor. In this category, there are many software-driven power steering modules too.
Which power steering system is the best?
Electric Power Steering System is the best as it consumes no fuel. It will be efficient, with fewer chances of damage or losing control. Also, It is entirely sustainable and good for decreasing global warming too. It helps run the vehicle quite smoothly, just like the traditional hydraulic power steering system or even better. It works with a motor, so if the electric motor gets damaged, you can repair it, but if the entire steering system gets damaged, there is no option but to replace it.
Indications for a flawed Power steering System
When the power steering system gets damaged, it shows clear signs to the driver. We should know about it to notice next time. The first and topmost sign will be the tightening of the steering. When you feel your steering is getting tighter than usual, it’s time for a service to check your power steering system. The second indication would be fuel leakage in front of your car. If you see some fuel leaked on the ground when you move your vehicle backward, that too in between the front two wheels, then it’s serious. It happens with the hydraulic power steering system. The third indication is friction.
The roughness between the wheels, steering, gears, and the front part of the car indicates the poor functioning of the power steering system and a sign of improper linkage of wires or fuel passage, even a start to leakage. The reduced fluid pressure equals the reduced hydraulic force in the vehicle. Grinding or grudging voice is the fourth indication, caused again by friction due to lack of lubrication. It increases the contact between the rack and the pinion, leading to conflict.
The loose Steering Wheel can also be an indication. Any change in the steering wheel will indicate a disbalance in the vehicle’s power steering system. Like when you are turning the steering, but the wheels are not moving, then alert. Be cautious and, as soon as possible, get it repaired. It might be due to excess pressure between the rack and the pinion of the steering. This problem leads to another problem, steering wander—the involuntary direction change in the steering, which is not under our control. It usually happens while driving long distances, on highways, or on straight roads. They are hard to hold on straight roads. It causes due to caster, loose or worn linkages, and gears.
